Hiten’s story
Hiten Patel’s passion for running has seen him take part in all Birmingham Running Festival’s 2024 events and raise vital funds for Birmingham Hospice as part of a marathon year of long-distance running.
In total, Hiten’s ran an amazing 20 half marathons in 2024, and he is also going to be part of #TeamBrumsHospice for 2025 TCS London Marathon on Sunday 27 April 2025. On top of this, he has also taken part in our Medal Mission Challenge and completed all the challenges!
As a 44-year-old NHS worker and qualified Personal Trainer, Hiten began running a few times a week, solely for the purpose of staying active and keeping fit during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Afterwards, he continued running with a combination of strength training.
For Hiten, donating and raising awareness for charity is not only about medals or recognition, but also his way to give back to the community and supporting Birmingham Hospice.
He said: “No matter what’s going on in life, there is always a reason to have hope and to continue by putting one foot in front of the other.
“I hope this message will inspire people to join us in raising awareness not only for charity, but for people and in keeping active for their health and wellbeing.”

FAQs
For all our charity places runners, you have pledged to raise a minimum sponsorship target dependent on the distance you are running:
5k – pledge to raise £100
10k – pledge to raise £150
Half Marathon – pledge to raise £250
For our own place runners in any distances, you do not have a set fundraising target. Just remember, every single penny you raise makes such an incredible difference to Birmingham Hospice. Pledge to raise £50 in return for a Birmingham Hospice running vest to wear on the day!
We welcome anyone to run for #TeamBrumsHospice on their chosen date.
The organisers do highlight the following for each distance:
- Minimum age for the 5k is 11 years old
- Minimum age for the 10k is 15 years old
- Minimum age for the Half Marathon is 17 years old
Since 2013, RunThrough has become a national running community, organising multiple large-scale running events across the country throughout the year.
When signing up with a charity place, you will be redirected to RunThrough’s site/registration form page to complete the sign up process by entering all your details. Once you’ve signed up, we’ll receive a notification and will be in touch to welcome you to #TeamBrumsHospice and support you in the build up to your run.
