Are you looking for your next exciting challenge? Birmingham Hospice has the mission for you!

Introducing Medal Mission: The Best of Brum Virtual Challenge. In this exciting new challenge, you’ll get moving, support local patients and earn an exclusive Brum-inspired medal that celebrates our city.

Here’s how it works:
  1. Choose your challenge: Select from four distance challenges, each representing a different part of Birmingham. You can take on one challenge for £15 or conquer all four for £50.
  1. Make your challenge your own: Decide when, where, and how you complete your distance. Whether you prefer morning runs, evening walks, or weekend bike rides, Medal Mission gives you the freedom to fit your miles into your everyday life.
  1. Make a difference: By raising money for Birmingham Hospice, you will go the distance for local people living with a terminal diagnosis, and their families.
  1. Earn your medal: You can track your miles using Strava or by adding your miles manually onto your fundraising page, to feature on our distance leaderboard. You will also receive a paper tracker to stick on the fridge! Once you’ve completed your challenge, you can proudly wear your well-deserved medal!

Pam's Story

Pam Brown has raised an amazing £390 in memory of her best friend by taking on the Medal Mission: Best of Brum challenge.

“Edwina was my best friend in the whole world,” Pam said. “She died here 10 years ago, and the hospice was so lovely to her. She was so well cared for.”

Edwina died on our Inpatient Unit a few days after being admitted. “It was the small stuff that really made a difference,” Pam said. “She didn’t want to eat, and I remember the staff encouraging her to eat some soup. Every time I have soup now, I think of Edwina. I was able to bring her flowers the day before she died, so this is a special memory.”

Pam found out about Medal Mission on Facebook, and decided to commit to the Best of Brum challenge to support Birmingham Hospice: “The lack of government funding really spurred me on to do this. Edwina and I worked together and were friends for years. She was my best friend, and I miss her so much. I was really proud to do this for her.”

Pam said: “I am not an athletic person at all, so it was a real challenge. My friend tackled some miles with me, but I clocked up the miles by walking every day, as I wanted to reach 360 miles by my birthday. It took me 100 days from signing up, and I have also lost three stone!”

Pam collected her medals as she ticked off each milestone, and this encouraged and inspired others to donate. She declared that the Bullring medal is her favourite, as it has the biggest target!

Pam’s advice for anyone wanting to take on Medal Mission: Best of Brum challenge is: “Do it! It doesn’t matter if you do one mile a day – it all adds up. You can really take your own time to do this. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”
