To celebrate Reloved Brum’s first anniversary, we wanted to shine the spotlight on one of our incredible supporters, Margot Harbot, for her wonderful upcycling efforts.
Margot has been a huge supporter of Birmingham Hospice after her mother received care at our Selly Park site. Since then, she is a crucial part of our craft fundraising group, helping organise yearly craft fayres and regular craft workshops.
Margot has been closely involved with Reloved Brum, hosting her workshops there throughout the year. So when a unique wedding dress was donated, Ed, Reloved Brum’s manager, asked Margot if she could perhaps upcycle it to support the shop.
“I have always loved wedding dresses. I got married in the 1980s and this dress reminds me of my own,” said Margot.
“The great thing about a wedding dress is that it uses lots of fabric – so I can be ambitious about the number of things I can make from it.”
Margot then took to her sewing machine and managed to create an astonishing 25 items from the original dress.
After a labour of love unpicking the lacing and details, Margot has been able to create items such as a Tilda doll, a notebook cover, a needle case, Christmas angels and even a tidy teddy bride and groom.
The items will then be sold to help raise money for Birmingham Hospice, celebrating and marking Reloved Brum’s first birthday.
Margot’s wedding dress project is a perfect example of how you can get involved and be crafty to help support our hospice, especially during our funding crisis.
We need the support of our local community now more than ever, so if you feel that you can join our craft group, or one of Margot’s sessions, please visit here for more information – Join a fundraising group – Birmingham Hospice
