Birmingham Hospice first in the West Midlands to launch DAISY Awards
Birmingham Hospice is delighted to announce the launch of our DAISY Awards – an exciting opportunity to celebrate the incredible compassion and expertise of our nurses.
The DAISY Foundation, established in 1999 in the USA, in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of an autoimmune disease, was created to recognise the extraordinary difference nurses make every day. The DAISY Award honours nurses who go above and beyond in delivering not only clinical excellence but also genuine human kindness, with nominations coming directly from patients and their families, whose lives have been touched by their care.
What makes this recognition so special is that it is rooted in the voices and experiences of those we serve – patients, families, and friends who have felt first-hand the impact of exceptional nursing. Being recognised by the people who matter most transforms the award into something deeply meaningful; it reflects moments of compassion, reassurance, dignity, and support that may otherwise go unseen.
These are the moments that stay with patients and their loved ones long after care has ended, and they capture the true essence of nursing. Introducing this programme is a fantastic step for our organisation. It shines a light on the very best of nursing, it strengthens a culture of appreciation and excellence, amplifies patient voice, and ensures that the extraordinary human connection at the heart of nursing is recognised and celebrated.
While the DAISY Awards programme is dedicated to recognising the outstanding contribution of our nurses, we remain equally committed to valuing all members of our hospice teams, whose expertise, dedication, and collaborative working are vital when delivering exceptional care to our patients and their families – and we will continue to celebrate their excellent work through our existing IRIS Awards.
