Staff, volunteers and shoppers at our Weoley Castle store found themselves at the heart of a soap opera earlier this week.
Cast and crew from BBC’s ‘Doctors’ descended upon the shop to film scenes for an upcoming episode.
The medical drama – which follows the lives of staff and patients at a Birmingham-based doctor’s surgery – used the store’s shop window for a storyline that will hit our screens in autumn.
Whilst we can’t disclose too much due to spoilers, we can reveal that filming involved Sunjay Midda’s character, Shak Hanif, a shopping spree and a rather ‘spooky’ theme.
Scott Hancox, retail manager at the Weoley Castle store, said: “The filming certainly attracted a good crowd to the shop. It’s great publicity for the Hospice and hopefully, our customers will now associate the store with TV and films.”
Heather Duffy, who volunteers at the store, added: “Having the TV crew down here today has been very exciting. Whilst a lot of people know us in the area and are incredibly generous, it’s brilliant to know that we will be on the telly soon to get our name out there even more.”
This episode of Doctors is expected to air on BBC One in October. The drama kindly donated £100 to Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice in allowing them to use our shop.
