The Big Five Shop Tour Challenge

24 August 2026

Three of our fundraisers have challenged themselves to run 70 miles over 3 days, visiting all 27 of our charity shops across the city.

John Ridd, Luke Manley and John Hurley from our Income Generation Team are taking on this epic challenge to celebrate the five-year anniversary of the merger between Birmingham St Mary’s and John Taylor Hospices in 2021.

Since our two hospices became one organisation, we’ve been able to expand our reach and help even more people who need our expert care.

Luke said: “Yeah really looking forward to the challenge. It’s a little bit daunting visiting all 27 shops! We’re starting off at Brownhills on day one then we’re going to go to Wylde Green and end up in Erdington.

“The following day we’re going to be at Solihull and Marston Green – and many more – so we’re going to leave no shop unturned!

“As a fundraiser you know it’s time for us to practice what we preach so I’m really excited to get out there fundraising and show our support for the hospice.”

We’ve had a huge impact over the last five years:

  • Nearly 13,500 people and families received their first contact with Birmingham Hospice services over the last five years.
  • Every month, our teams have made more than 1,100 home visits, bringing expert hospice care directly to patients where they need it most.
  • 1,790 new patients welcomed into Birmingham Hospice over the last five years; an average of 358 people each year (around 29 every month). These are first-time admissions

We’re aiming to raise as much money as possible this week as part of our ‘Big Five Challenge’ – celebrating 5 years of outstanding care across the city as one hospice.

Please donate today and give our team a cheer and a big high five if you see them out and about!
