“Birmingham Hospice cared for our dad and brought light into our lives in the middle of our darkest moments.”

Aimee’s story

Aimee’s dad, Paul, was cared for by Birmingham Hospice in the final weeks of his life. A devoted family man, Paul loved sport, spending time with friends and being surrounded by the people he cared about most.

Following a cancer diagnosis and several years of treatment, Paul’s health deteriorated. The family were eventually told there was no further treatment available. When he arrived at Birmingham Hospice, his family felt an immediate sense of relief.

“He was settled into his own room with his oxygen and the team explained everything to Mum. She could stay overnight if she wanted to and they would provide her meals. Whatever we needed, they would make it happen.”

They no longer had to worry about hospital routines or visiting restrictions. The hospice team made sure Paul was comfortable and gave the family the space to focus on what mattered most: being together. Friends could visit, family could stay close, and precious memories could still be made.

“That meant we could stop worrying so much about his care and simply spend time with him as a family. We could continue being a family with Dad for those two precious weeks at the hospice, when it mattered most.”

For Aimee and her family, those moments became memories they will always treasure. By dedicating a memory star and making a donation through Light up a Life, you’ll help ensure other local families receive the same expert care, comfort and support when they need it most.

“I’ll be dedicating a star to my dad through Light up a Life. For my family, it’s a way to celebrate Dad’s life, remember the difference he made to us, and honour his memory this Christmas time.

It’s also a way to help another family receive the care and support that meant so much to ours. Every family deserves that.”
