Solihull’s first ever Chocolate 5k took place on Saturday September 5th and has so far raised an incredible £15,000 for patients living with terminal illness in the Midlands.
The event, organised by Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice and based at Dorridge Village Hall was the first of its kind to be held in Solihull.
Competitors took part in a 5k route with three chocolate stations breaking up the course. On finishing the course, participants received a chocolate medal and a ‘Golden Ticket’ which granted them entry into a delicious chocolate buffet, complete with a giant chocolate fountain.
Event Manager Lucy Watkins said:
“We were delighted to welcome over 400 chocolate runners to the event which was amazing as this was our first event to take place in Solihull. Not many people know that Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice provides care for terminally ill patients in Solihull so this event was a brilliant way to raise awareness. We have hit our £15k target, so a huge thank you to everyone who took part and to all of our volunteers for helping us to achieve this”
Event participant Sophie Caswell said:
“The event was so much fun, everyone from grandparents to babies took part, it was a family event with a lovely atmosphere. There are so many fun runs out there that it is great to have something a bit different. Of course, all of the lovely chocolate really sweetened the deal!’
