Birmingham’s leading businesses have been battling it out for first place at a hospice’s Winter Wonderland competition – with Shoosmiths winning the top spot.

Six corporates from across the city took part in the Birmingham St Mary’s contest, which saw teams decorate a Christmas tree in a bid to win first place.

A total of 10 teams from Wesleyan, Park Regis Birmingham, adi Group, DAC Beachcroft, and Shoosmiths all took part in the festive tournament, helping to transform the Hospice’s garden into a sparkling spectacular.

Alex Bishop, partner at Shoosmiths, said: “The team at Shoosmiths are absolutely chuffed to have won top spot at the Birmingham St Mary’s Winter Wonderland competition. We had a brilliant day decorating our tree and it was a great way to kickstart the festive season.

“Whilst we had a lot of fun getting creative in the garden, it was also incredibly moving to be able to visit the Hospice and meet the individuals, staff and volunteers there. It gave us a much better idea of the vital care and support the Hospice provides to local families living with terminal illness across Birmingham and Sandwell.”

Each tree was judged by Matt Lightfoot, senior creative presentation manager at Selfridges Birmingham, who is responsible for styling the iconic store’s windows and displays.

All decorated trees will be displayed at Birmingham St Mary’s garden, providing an impressive Winter Wonderland spectacle for the individuals staying and visiting the Hospice.

Charlotte Anson, corporate partnerships manager at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, said: “Congratulations to Shoosmiths for designing the winning tree – it has helped transform our garden into a glittering Winter Wonderland, making it a beautiful backdrop for the individuals, family members and loved ones who are staying or visiting the Hospice this festive season.

“A special thank you also to all the other teams who braved rain and snow to decorate their trees – they all look amazing and we had a fantastic time in welcoming you to our Hospice.”

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice provides vital care and support to individuals and families living with terminal illness. Every day, the Hospice supports 350 individuals across Birmingham and Sandwell – whether that’s at the Hospice, in people’s homes or in the local community.

The Winter Wonderland competition is part of the Hospice’s ‘Care at Christmas’ campaign – a festive appeal that aims to increase support for the charity leading up to and over the Christmas period. It costs £22,000 to run the Hospice on Christmas Day and so all donations will make a big difference to the local families the Hospice supports over the festive season.
