Sharon and Sara, both from Digbeth, have recently donated an incredible £2,500 to Birmingham Hospice, in memory of Sara’s partner, Liam.
“We were together for nearly three years. I miss his sense of humour so much,” Sara said.
Sharon runs The Moseley Arms in Digbeth and Sara works as a barmaid there. Before being diagnosed with lung cancer in November, Liam was a well-loved local to the pub and to others in Digbeth.
Sharon said: “I’ve known Liam for years. He then met Sara and she became a barmaid at my pub, so he was a real regular. We were very close, and it was just so tragic when he was diagnosed. He was so cheeky and had such an infectious laugh.”
After a short stay in hospital, Liam spent two weeks in our Inpatient Unit with Sara by his side every day.
“The nurses were just amazing. Liam had a constant stream of visitors, and it was lovely we were all able to come and spend as much time with him as we wanted,” Sharon added.
Sara and Sharon wanted to say thank you for the care Liam received by hosting a fun day in aid of the hospice. The day started at 2pm and continued until the late evening to give everyone a chance to attend and show their support.
“We held the fundraiser on a Sunday afternoon in Liam’s memory. We hosted activities such as a raffle, an auction, roll the coin and lots more,” they shared.
Support didn’t just come from The Moseley Arms locals however, Liam’s colleagues also joined in the fun and other local pubs that Liam would visit donated raffle prizes. An extra thank you goes to The Fountain Inn, The Lamp Tavern, Cleary’s Irish Bar and Sir Charles Napier.
Sharon and Sara donated a fantastic £2,500 to Birmingham Hospice in Liam’s memory. This incredible total could fund five days of nursing support for a person being cared for in one of our Inpatient Units – thank you so much.
