Our Ambassadors play an important role in raising our profile across Birmingham and Sandwell. They help us to increase the awareness and understanding of the Hospice services by attending various events, representing Birmingham St Mary’s. Polly is one of our amazing ambassadors who works full time in education whilst volunteering for 2 other charities in her spare time.
“I wanted to volunteer as an Ambassador at the Hospice on a very personal level as my friend spent some time at the Hospice Inpatient Unit. I had seen the excellent care she received from the nurses and doctors who I have a lot of admiration for, and this made me want to continue to support the services that the Hospice provides. I knew very little about the Hospice when my friend was there, I just thought it was about the Inpatient Unit, but now I am an Ambassador I have learnt so much more about the services the Hospice provides in the community too. I wanted to give something back and help others who have been through a similar experience to me.
As an ambassador, I attend Hospice-organised events and community events where I deliver presentations, give votes of thanks and attend cheque presentations. These could be anything from gig nights, dinner parties and football matches; a whole variety of events across Birmingham and Sandwell. It is a privilege and an honour to meet the inspiring people who have raised money for the Hospice and to learn more about the event they held.
I would say to anyone thinking about becoming an ambassador that giving is a gift. Give a little time and make a difference to individuals, their families, carers and loved ones, living with a terminal illness
Without our amazing Ambassadors like Polly we would not be able to continue to provide free care and support to those living with a terminal illness across Birmingham and Sandwell.
