Guy joined in with our Chocolate 5k fun run in Dorridge and raised an amazing £1175 in sponsorship and we are very grateful for all of his fundraising efforts and those of all of our other Chocolate Runners. Here, Guy shares his experience of our delicious event…
Taking part in the Dorridge Chocolate 5k was the first time I’ve done any type of fundraising. My sister was interested in doing the event and was looking for others to join in, so when she asked me I thought “it’s for a great cause so why not?”
I learnt about Birmingham St Mary’s a few years ago when my dad, Geoff Bainbridge, received their help. He was brilliantly looked after for the short time he was at the Hospice, so along with my two sisters, Anna and Rosie, we all ran together in his memory.
It was a terrific day and I enjoyed seeing lots of lovely people turn out to do some good for the community and help raise funds for a great cause. It was very relaxed so all ages and levels of fitness could take part, and it also helped me to get a bit fitter!
From my first ever fundraising experience, I also learnt how generous my friends, family and colleagues are. Without them, I’d have raised nothing but together we raised over a thousand pounds!
I’ve got the fundraising bug now and I’m looking to continue my support of the Hospice by organising an annual fundraising event, getting friends and family together for a good time!
This fundraising stuff seems pretty easy but it’s so important to ensure that Birmingham St Mary’s can be there for people like my dad when the time comes.
