Our event volunteers play an important role in making our events a success, from marshalling routes to cheering on participants. Current CEO of a medical company, Richard is one of our many fantastic event volunteers who support the Hospice with many events. As a keen walker, dog lover and club captain of a tennis club, he can still fit ad-hoc volunteering around his work and social life without much impact.
“I have a personal connection to the Hospice as my father was cared for on the Inpatient Unit so I am very aware of the fantastic work done by the Hospice. I started volunteering in 2014, where I have now learnt more about the community care services and bereavement support services available from the Hospice.
My roles as an event volunteer have included setting up the event arena, route marshalling, putting up signage and manning games and activities, enabling me to put my skills and experiences into practice such as customer service skills. My best volunteering moment has been making a Rudolph Hoopla game that has been used at a couple of events and resulted in raising extra funds for the Hospice. As an event volunteer its great fun being part of a fantastic team of staff and volunteers.
Give volunteering a go. You can do as much or as little volunteering as you can, but every hour given goes a long way to helping the Hospice.”
Without our brilliant event volunteers like Richard, we would not be able to continue to provide free care and support to those living with a terminal illness across Birmingham and Sandwell.
