Big-hearted solicitors from across the West Midlands are offering a free will writing service this September, to show their support for Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice.

Phillip Haycock Solicitors, Tyndallwoods Solicitors and Baches Solicitors LLP will be waiving their usual fees and instead asking for a charitable donation to be made to the Selly Park hospice.

The generous firms will be offering the service during the hospice’s ‘Make a Will Fortnight’, which takes place from Monday 3 to Monday 17 September.

Phillip Haycock, principal solicitor at Phillip Haycock Solicitors, said: “There are so many benefits to writing a will and yet a lot of people don’t have one. Not only does a will give you peace of mind that the people you love will be provided for but it can also help reduce the amount of Inheritance Tax that might be payable on any property or money you leave behind.

“Taking part in Birmingham St Mary’s ‘Make a Will Fortnight’ is a great initiative and the team are really proud to be a part of it. It’s an inexpensive, simple way for people to get this vital document sorted whilst also showing their support for a local hospice.”

Typically, will writing costs £150 but the three firms are asking for any donation – big or small – to carry out the service. All donations will go to Birmingham St Mary’s, which provides vital care and support to people living with life-limiting illness across Birmingham and Sandwell.

Derek Spinks, senior fundraising manager at Birmingham St Mary’s, said: “I’d like to say a really big thank you to Tyndallwoods, Baches and Phillip Haycocks solicitors for their incredible generosity. It’s fantastic that they are donating their expertise and time in support of hospice care for local people .

“Over 60 per cent of our income needs to come from voluntary funding, so every donation really will make a difference. Just £50 – which is a third of the average will writing cost – could help someone to receive expert nursing care in the comfort of their own home.”
