Birmingham Hospice has announced the appointment of Paul Bytheway as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Paul will join the hospice in the autumn.
Paul has a long-established background in the NHS, qualifying as a nurse in 1995. He enjoyed a successful career in emergency nursing before making the decision to move into general management in 2003.
Paul has held a number of senior executive appointments across the NHS and is currently Group Chief Delivery Officer at Humber Partnership Group. He also has experience of working within the commercial sector, supporting digital innovation within the NHS.
Paul has a longstanding commitment to voluntary service through his work with St John Ambulance where he is Chair of the Priory Group, as well as being an Independent Governor for the University of Wolverhampton.
Paul will take over from Simon Fuller who will be stepping down at the end of this year after four years in the role.
Paul said: “I am delighted to be joining this outstanding organisation. The commitment to our communities was ever-present during my conversations with the teams at Birmingham Hospice.
“Although a challenging time, I look forward to working with the team and communities to take forward the next chapter of the hospice’s journey.”
Chair of Birmingham Hospice Dawn Ward CBE said: “I am very excited about Paul joining the team at Birmingham Hospice and look forward to working alongside him.
“Paul is a very experienced manager in the healthcare sector and his expertise will be invaluable as we navigate challenges including increased demand for our services and funding that has not kept up with our rapidly increasing costs.”
