Amy takes on Inca Trail Trek for the patients she supports

17 July 2026

Birmingham Hospice’s first ever overseas event, the Inca Trail Trek, is coming in 2027 – and some of our inspiring clinical colleagues have joined the team!

Amy, our Therapies Lead, is taking on Machu Picchu to raise vital funds for the patients she supports every day. After celebrating her 40th birthday this year, she is marking the milestone with this once in a lifetime adventure.

Amy said: “As clinicians, we don’t always see the other side of what makes the hospice tick in terms of fundraising – so being actively involved in that will be a positive thing for me.”

With this, Amy hopes to inspire others in the clinical side of the hospice to get involved with more fundraising events. She says “It’s important to have an appreciation for where the money comes from”, and is passionate about how this helps with understanding what goes into providing care.

Working with patients directly has been an inspiration for Amy taking on the trek. She explained: “We get to see first hand how patients benefit from what the hospice does for them, and we can only do this with fundraising behind us.

“To be a part of this and to do something positive to raise more money feels like the right thing to do for the patients – and I’m capable, so feel like I should!”

She is “excited but also nervous – it’s a massive thing both physically and emotionally!”

The Inca Trail Trek will take place from 27 October to 7 November 2027, with our intrepid team heading to the heart of the Andes for this unforgettable experience. Could you join the team alongside Amy, and support local people living with a terminal illness?
