Volunteer with us!

Lend a hand at our collection weekend picking up trees and dropping them at our disposal sites around Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield and Solihull. If you have your own van or flat-bed truck, fantastic! If not, we can provide vehicles for you to drive.

Without volunteers, Treecycling simply wouldn’t be possible. We are on the lookout for incredible people to volunteer and help us to make this the most successful Treecycling yet.

We’re also on the lookout for volunteers to help spread the word by posting Treecycling leaflets through letterboxes in the local area in December and early January. We’d love your help!

Treecycling FAQs

Thank you so much for supporting Birmingham Hospice by booking your Christmas tree collection.

You should have received a receipt email containing your Treecycling tag and all the information you need to know for the collection weekend. Please check your junk folder if you can’t see this. If you haven’t received your email after 24 hours, please contact the Treecycling Team at treecycling@birminghamhospice.org.uk and we can check your booking.

On Saturday 10 or Sunday 11 January 2026. We can’t provide an exact time or day when your tree will be collected, so please put your tree outside on the evening of Friday 9 January. Our volunteers will start very early on Saturday morning and will pick up your tree at some point before 4pm on Sunday 11 January.

If adverse weather conditions affect our plans, we will collect trees during the week beginning Monday 12 January 2026. No matter what, we are committed to collecting your tree.

We kindly request that your tree is placed in a highly visible, safe location and:

  • Make sure you have attached your tag to your tree.
  • Make sure your tree is visible to our volunteer collectors.
  • Don’t block the pavement or cause access issues.
  • Our volunteers cannot enter your property (house, garden, shed) under any circumstance.
  • Please don’t use plastic (e.g., cable ties or plastic wallets) to attach your tag to your tree. These aren’t recyclable and take our volunteers time to remove.

We can collect your tree for cash if you see us out and about on the day, but we cannot guarantee this, as our volunteers will be on specific routes with a limited capacity in their vehicles. We recommend booking online with plenty of time to spare so you do not miss out. Bookings close on Monday 5 January 2026 at 11pm.

You can book your tree collection here.

Unfortunately, we would be unable to return to collect trees that have not been put out on time. Each year our Treecycling campaign is growing, and we are hitting our capacity for the number of trees that our amazing volunteers can collect. They give up their weekends and vehicles to support our collections, but they must get back to their day jobs the following week.

We will therefore be unable to return to collect your tree and we will not be able to offer a refund. We kindly ask that you place your tree outside on the evening of Friday 9 January 2026, in a highly visible place to reduce the risk of your tree being missed by one of our volunteers.

In the following postcode areas: B13, B14, B15, B16, B17, B23, B23, B24, B26, B27, B28, B29, B30, B31, B32, B33, B34, B35, B36, B38, B42, B43, B44, B45, B46, B47, B62, B67, B68, B72, B73, B74, B75, B76, B90, B91, B92, B93, B94

We can pick up multiple trees from one location, if those trees belong to one household, who have booked and donated to have their tree collected by our team. We will only collect the stated number of trees at any one address quoted on the booking form.

We can collect any Christmas trees that are up to 10ft in height.  If you do have a tree over 6ft and are able to saw it in half, that would be appreciated and useful for our tree collectors.  Should your tree be taller than 10ft, we ask that you call the hospice in advance to advise us so we can make the necessary arrangements.

If you put your tree out on time and it has not been collected by 4pm on Sunday 11 January, please contact us by either calling 0121 752 6150or emailing treecycling@birminghamhospice.org.ukand we will arrange an alternative collection. Please ensure that you received a booking confirmation as we will only collect trees booked through our booking form.

Thanks to the support of Acorn Environmental Management Group, we will be disposing of your real Christmas trees in an eco-friendly way. Your tree will be chipped and used to create biofuel for our local community.

We are all more conscious of how our actions affect our environment and we can all play our part in supporting environmentally friendly initiatives to reduce waste. Your tree will be used to create biofuel for our local community. You are playing an important role in waste reduction and donating to a local charity. It’s a winwin for everyone!

Birmingham Hospice provides specialist end of life care for local people living with a terminal diagnosis, and for their families.
