At Birmingham Hospice, patients and families are at the heart of everything we do. From our Inpatient Units and Living Well Centres to bereavement support services, we provide compassionate care and support when it matters most.
We are excited to offer an opportunity to join our innovative Specialist Palliative Urgent Response (SPUR) Service as a Clinical Lead. This role is ideal for an experienced and compassionate healthcare professional who is passionate about delivering high-quality clinical care while leading and developing a dynamic multidisciplinary team.
As a key member of the SPUR leadership team, you will spend approximately 60% of your time providing leadership and operational support, helping to develop and inspire our Urgent Support Healthcare Assistants, Urgent Response Nurses and Paramedics. The remaining 40% of your role will be clinical, rotating between triage and face-to-face care, responding to urgent referrals from patients, families and healthcare professionals across Birmingham and Solihull.
Working within a responsive service that aims to assess patients within two hours, you will play a vital role in ensuring patients receive timely, specialist palliative and end of life care, helping them remain in their preferred place of care wherever possible.

Barbara Bennett, a Healthcare Assistant at Birmingham Hospice’s Erdington site, was inspired to join the hospice after seeing the expert palliative care her dad, Frederick, received there.
Having worked in healthcare for 30 years, Barbara decided it was time she went into palliative and end of life care after helping to care for her father when he was diagnosed with heart failure, kidney failure and dementia.
