A visitor from a galaxy far, far away took Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice by storm on a surprise visit.
On the same day that thousands of eager film fans queued up outside cinemas to catch the latest instalment of the legendary franchise, a real life storm trooper was busy taking photos and chatting with patients and staff at the Hospice.
Steven Hill, from Hall Green, decided to pull on the famous costume again following an impressive fundraising effort at the Birmingham Half Marathon in October.
The graphic designer was light years ahead of any fancy-dress competition as he ran the race wearing his storm trooper costume, raising £1,755 for Birmingham St Mary’s in the process.
“One of my friends received some great care here at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice earlier this year.
“Unfortunately he passed away but his family were really pleased with the care he received and I thought it would be nice to give something back to the Hospice.
“I’ve always done the Birmingham Half Marathon in fancy dress and thought the Stormtrooper outfit would make it a bit more of a challenge!”
Steven was also quick to thank everyone who sponsored his run, particularly supporters at Vaughan’s Private Members Club, Waitrose Hall Green and his friends and family, especially Lydia
Caring for around 1,200 patients a year, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice is an independent adult hospice providing care and support for terminally ill people and their families across Birmingham and Sandwell.
Care is free of charge to all patients and relatives; although the Hospice currently needs to raise £8 million annually to fund this vital care.
