The fun run with a tasty twist – the Chocolate 5k – returns to Solihull this March, helping to raise vital funds for Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice.
The sweet family event will see chocolate lovers fuel up on treats without any of the guilt, as they burn off the calories running round Elmdon Park Nature Reserve.
Taking place on Saturday 23 March, sweet-toothed Silhillians will be able to run, jog or walk around the scenic 5k route, picking up goodies from chocolate stations along the way.
Victory will definitely be sweet for those who complete the course, as they’ll be rewarded with a gooey chocolate pot and commemorative medal at the finish line.
Organised by Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, this is the fourth time the local charity has hosted its Chocolate 5k in Solihull, raising a total of £30,000 so far. The fun run series has been recognised as one of the best fun runs in the country, recently picked up bronze in the fun run category at the national Running Awards.
All funds raised go towards the Hospice, which provides vital care and support to local people who are living with life-limiting illness.
Laura Nash, events manager at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, said: “Whether you’re a running enthusiast, a complete beginner, or someone who just loves chocolate, the Chocolate 5k is a really fun way to enjoy tasty treats without any of the guilt! We always enjoy bringing this family-friendly event to Solihull and so I look forward to welcoming lots of chocolate lovers this March.”
It costs £8.3 million to run the Hospice every year, over 60 per cent of which must come from generous voluntary donations. Sponsorship raised at events like the Chocolate 5k enable the Hospice to continue to care for people wherever and whenever they need it, supporting them to live well with their life-limiting illness.
This year, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice will be celebrating 40 years of providing care across Birmingham and Sandwell. When the Hospice first opened in 1979, it could care for 25 people on any given day. Four decades later and the Hospice is supporting over 400 people every day, providing care in people’s homes, in the community, at its Day Hospice facility and at the Hospice’s Inpatient Unit.
Registration for the Chocolate 5k opens at 9.30am, with the tasty fun run starting at 11am. Tickets cost £16 for adults and £12 for children under 16-years-old, with free admission for children under five. Family tickets, which are for two adults and up to three children, cost £45.
