Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice is calling for cyclists from the West Midlands to get on their bikes for their annual ‘Ride the Reservoir’ cycle challenge.

Taking place on Sunday 19 March 2017, the ride will take cyclists on an exhilarating 75km route with plenty of ups and downs starting from Bartley Green and extending into the scenic villages of Romsley, Belbroughton, Chaddesley Corbett, Dodford, Barnt Green then back to the reservoir. Cyclists will be supplied with refreshments at points during the challenge as well as a commemorative gift and certificate when they cross the finish line. The event is approved by British Cycling –the national governing body for cycling in Great Britain.

For those new to cycling or for families wanting to take part in the high profile cycling event, participants can opt for the ‘Reservoir Relay’ – a 3 hour challenge to complete as many 3 mile laps around the Bartley Green Reservoir as possible.

Lucy Watkins, Events Manager at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice said: “Taking part in our ‘Ride the Reservoir’ sportive is a great way kick start the cycling season especially ahead of the Velo Birmingham this September.”

The cycle sportive attracted more than 270 cyclists last year, raising over £15,000 of vital funds for the Selly Park based Hospice.

Registration for the 75KM route is £20.00 and £10.00 for the Reservoir Relay. Visit https://www.birminghamhospice.org.uk/Event/ride-the-reservoir-2017 or email events@birminghamhospice.org.uk to book your place.
