To celebrate National Chocolate Week (10-16 October), Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice has announced a new date for their popular charity ‘Chocolate 5K’.

The unique charity event is set to return on Saturday 6th May 2017, at Rowheath Pavilion, Bournville for the third year.

The ‘Chocolate 5K’ gives chocolate lovers the opportunity to burn off the calories whilst collecting sweet treats along the route. Runners also receive a commemorative medal and goody bag as well free entry into a post-run chocolate buffet.

Three ‘Chocolate 5K’ events were held this year in Bournville, Solihull and for the first time in Sandwell. The events attracted over 800 participants in total, raising £35,000 for the local Hospice which provides free care and support for individuals, their families, carers and loved ones across Birmingham and Sandwell.

Lucy Watkins, Events Manager at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice said: “We’re delighted with the success of our ‘Chocolate 5K’ series this year. Thank you to everyone who took part, the total raised will make a huge contribution to ensuring Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice can work towards a future where the best experience of living is available to everyone leading up to and at the end of life.

Following the great feedback from all three events, we’re excited to be bringing the ‘Chocolate 5K’ back to Bournville in 2017. What better way to indulge your sweet tooth whilst supporting hospice care in your community?”

Over half of the funding required to run Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice’s services is from voluntary income.

For those looking for a charity challenge with a difference, then next years’ ‘Chocolate 5K’ is one to get your teeth stuck into.
