Light up a Life 2015

26 October 2015

A special event will be held this festive season for people and families who have lost a loved one.

On Thursday 10th December, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice will hold their ‘Light up a Life’ ceremony which allows hospice supporters, families and friends to remember a loved one this Christmas.

As well as celebrating the lives of those no longer with us, the free event aims to raise vital funds to support families in Birmingham and Sandwell living with a terminal illness.

Over 1,000 terminally ill patients are cared for at the hospice which is free of charge to all patients and families. The hospice also provides help and support for relatives and friends, no matter how young or old, throughout the patient’s illness and after bereavement, for as long as necessary.

With two events taking place respectively at 4.30pm and 7.30pm, families are invited to come along and enjoy Christmas carols and songs from local choirs before the lighting of the Christmas tree. Guests can then write the name of a loved one on a star, which is placed around the Christmas tree, as well as having the opportunity to view the hospice Book of Remembrance.

Mary Quinn, Clinical Nurse Specialist at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice hopes the event will continue to make a real difference to patients and families.

“This Christmas, we’re holding our annual Light up a Life event as part of our season of remembrance. It’s an appeal which contributes hugely to the £8 million needed each year to run Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice.

“To show your support and make a difference, please join us on Thursday 10th December to remember loved ones who are no longer with us. Let’s celebrate their lives and raise money to help many more families cope with a terminal illness.”

Guests are advised to wrap up warm and prepare for all weather conditions just in case! To find out more about the Light up a Life ceremony call 0121 472 1191 or email fundraise@birminghamhospice.org.uk
