This March, Jamie is taking on Raise Your Game for Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice – a new challenge which is asking people to get gaming to help raise vital funds for the Hospice. Read his story and discover why he’s using his hobby to support a great local cause…
After sadly losing my grandad to cancer, I became aware of how valuable hospices are to people and families when they’re going through the toughest of times. The staff and volunteers do incredible work in supporting people with life-limiting illnesses, providing around the clock care when it’s needed most.
So when I heard about ‘Raise Your Game’ – which involved both gaming and raising funds for a local hospice – I was really keen to take part and get my gaming community involved. I’ve always enjoyed playing video games and will regularly live stream on Twitch – a video platform for gamers. I think it’s a great idea that I can use my hobby to fundraise for a charity!
The best thing about gaming is the communities behind the games. As fun as the actual games are, I love getting to know new people from around the world in an engaging and interactive way. I’ve now built a global community of like-minded people with similar interests and I can’t wait for them to get behind my fundraising for the Hospice.
Although I haven’t decided what games I will be playing during the Raise Your Game weekend, it will most likely be a mix of horror and team-based games. I’ll be live streaming the games on Twitch and asking my viewers to help support the Hospice through generous donations.
Raise Your Game is such a simple way to raise money the Hospice – as I’ll be fundraising by doing something I already love doing! I can’t wait to get involved and bring my gaming community together for a good cause.
For anyone else who is thinking of taking part in Raise Your Game, I would say do it! I’d advise people to really shout about the fundraising they’re doing for Birmingham St Mary’s, by telling their friends, family and sharing on their social media pages. It’s simple – if more people know about your fundraising, then more people will be able to support your fundraising efforts!
Raise Your Game takes place on Friday 8th to Sunday 10th March and there are lots of different ways you can get gaming to show your support for the Hospice.
