Join Betty and Michael for this year’s Big Brum Bucket!

31 May 2022

On Friday 8 and Saturday 9 July 2022, volunteers will take to shopping centres and high streets across Birmingham to raise bucket-loads for The Hospice Charity Partnership.

Betty & Michael with their bucketsA group of fantastic volunteers are aiming to raise a whopping £10,000 from our annual ‘Big Brum Bucket’ weekend.

This amount could fund over 20 full days of nursing support for a local person being cared for on one of our inpatient units. But it simply wouldn’t be possible without volunteers like Betty and Michael McDonald.

Betty and Michael are long-time supporters of the charity and have been collecting donations for over 20 years! In that time, the couple and their networks have raised an incredible £40,000, and now they are calling on you to get involved.

‘We encourage our friends, family and connections to get involved by asking them to take a collection tin. They either collect on the streets, or have the tin in their home to raise money from loose change. There are now a group of dedicated collectors who help with the Big Brum Bucket campaign every year!’

‘People look forward to receiving a tin. We all really enjoy it, and find it very rewarding. We have met lots of people on the way volunteering for this appeal, and the general public are very generous’.

Betty and Michael have some advice for people thinking about taking part in Big Brum Bucket this year:

Have a go! The first collection might be a bit daunting, but once you get started you will have a great time. Just be yourself, and smile.

People are really generous. You will find it very rewarding, and the end result is very satisfying.’

We are so grateful to volunteers like Betty and Michael for raising vital funds through Big Brum Bucket to ensure we can continue to provide expert care to those who need it.

You could make a huge difference by joining them as a Bucketeer. If you would like to get involved, sign up today to become a Bucketeer or order a collection tin to have at your home or workplace!
