Our Volunteer Collectors are enthusiastic individuals who raise vital funds for Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice. You will find them collecting at venues such as supermarkets, music gigs, busy high streets and sports grounds. Beverley has been part of our collection team for 2 years and when she’s not volunteering, she enjoys baking, knitting and helping out with the elderly.
“I was keen to volunteer with the Hospice as I am a single parent with some time on my hands and I wanted to do something in memory of my mother. That’s when I decided to become a part of the fundraising team at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice as a Volunteer Collector.
The collections are based in various locations across Birmingham and Sandwell, enabling me to volunteer on an ad-hoc basis, even if it’s just for a couple of hours. It is a rewarding role and it’s always lovely to see people’s generosity. Being a Volunteer Collector has developed my communication skills and I now feel confident talking to the public when they donate. My favourite moment was when I dressed up as a Christmas angel, collecting donations at a rugby club!
Volunteering for the Hospice is a great way to fill up my spare time and I enjoy the social element of meeting new people. I think it provides a really wonderful opportunity to give something back to the Hospice for everything they do.”
Without our brilliant Volunteer Collectors like Beverley, we would not be able to continue to provide free care and support to individuals and their families living with a terminal illness across Birmingham and Sandwell.
