Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice’s tastiest fun run is back. The Chocolate 5K gives chocolate lovers the opportunity to burn off the calories whilst indulging in a sweet chocolate treat or three!
The unique fun run attracted 600 participants of all ages last year, raising over £18,500 of vital funds for the Selly Oak based Hospice.
This year’s event takes place on Saturday 23rd April and starts at 11am from Rowheath Pavilion in Bournville, the original home of chocolate. From Rowheath Pavilion, runners will approach chocolate stations along the 5K course offering a variety of delicious chocolate treats and plenty of water to keep you hydrated.
Victory is, of course, sweet and upon finishing; runners will receive a chocolate medal and gain free entry into the post-run chocolate buffet.
Lucy Watkins, Events Manager at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice said, “Chocolate lovers will be delighted at the return of the Chocolate 5K fun run in Bournville. What greater motivation is there to support your local hospice whilst enjoying some chocolate treats along the way? Registration is now open and we hope to beat last year’s target of £18,500. Every penny raised from events like this really does make a difference. Just £25 of sponsorship money pays for a Hospice at Home nurse for an hour. We rely on the generous support from the local community to continue to offer our services.”
It costs around £8million each year to run the Hospice which provides free care and support for terminally ill patients and their families across Birmingham and Sandwell. There isn’t a minimum sponsorship amount but participants are encouraged to raise as much as they can.
For those who can’t make the fun run in Bournville, don’t fret. There will also be a Chocolate 5K at Sandwell Valley Country Park, West Bromwich (Sunday 3rd July) and at Dorridge Village Hall, Dorridge (Saturday 10th September).
