Birmingham Hospice has opened its 25th charity shop in the region with an impressive new superstore in Aldridge.
The charity delivers expert palliative and end of life care for people in Birmingham and the surrounding area at both at its Inpatient Units and in the community and relies on income from its shops to fund that care.
The superstore, located in The Square off Rookery Lane in Aldridge, will bring quality pre-loved goods at reasonable prices to the local community. The shop prides itself on being one of the only charity shops in the area offering high-quality second-hand furniture.
Shop Manager, Andrew Turner, and his team opened the store at 10am on Thursday 28th August to crowds waiting to explore and bag themselves a bargain.
Jonathan Varley, Head of Retail at Birmingham Hospice, said the team have worked “tirelessly” to make the shop the best it can be for local people.
He said: “We’re thrilled to be opening our 25th shop and continuing to grow our retail presence at Birmingham Hospice.
“Each shop plays a vital role in funding the expert palliative and end of life care for local people.
“The shop team have worked tirelessly to create an inviting, unique space where local people can have a browse and pick up some bargains.
“We’re proud to be the local charity furniture shop in the area too – providing excellent quality furniture for less.”
Birmingham Hospice has another 24 shops in the wider area, including the popular Brownhills store near to Aldridge. Over the past 12 months, the local Brownhills community have generously donated 6,311 bags of pre-loved items and 19,673 customers have discovered pre-loved treasures from the shop, while volunteers have dedicated 3,464 hours of their time.
The hospice’s retail arm creates meaningful employment and volunteering opportunities for local people, while also making a difference socially and environmentally.
Simon Mitchell, Retail Area Manager for the charity, added: “I joined the hospice retail team in February this year so this is my first shop opening as an area manager for the hospice and I couldn’t be prouder of the team for all their hard work in the run up to opening.
“I’ve seen firsthand the way income from our retail shops contributes to our care services and it’s so important for local people to have the chance to support their local hospice.
“Aldridge is an excellent area for us to be in and already we feel so welcome.”
