Our Shop Assistants are vital to the efficient running of our 16 charity shops located across Birmingham, supporting the Hospice. By providing the highest quality customer service, they encourage visitors to return to our shops for a pleasant retail experience. At our Quinton shop, you will find Susan, one of our fantastic volunteers. When she’s not sorting window displays, Susan enjoys going to exercise classes, gardening, and going on holiday!
“Retirement from my job as a supervisor in a hospital department was approaching, so I started to think about volunteering to fill my time. After both my parents passed away with cancer, I knew that I wanted to do something for the Hospice and to get involved with the Hospice charity shops. Once I’d retired, I began my first volunteering role as a Shop Assistant in May 2013.
Part of my role is to check the donations, tag and price the clothes and arrange them for display on the shop floor. I also welcome and assist customers in the shop and it is always satisfying to see the happy faces of customers when they find something they like. Witnessing the generosity of the public and the amount of donations people bring into the shop makes it really worthwhile.
I would encourage anyone thinking about volunteering to go ahead and do it as it is incredibly rewarding and you are given the chance to meet and socialise with great people.”
Without our wonderful Shop Assistants like Susan, we would not be able to continue to provide free care and support to those living with a terminal illness across Birmingham and Sandwell.
