Referrals to Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice can be made for patients aged 18 or over with life-limiting illness (a life-limiting illness is an illness where there is no reasonable hope of cure). Referrals can be made by a range of healthcare professionals across Birmingham and Sandwell, including GPs, community and district nurses, and consultants.
If you are a patient wishing to be referred, you should speak to your doctor or nurse. This is to ensure that we work in partnership with the other professionals involved in your care.
When a patient’s condition is stable and they no longer require our support, they may be discharged. Patients who have been discharged from the Hospice less than three months ago can self-refer back if support is needed again.
