CAFÉ VOLUNTEERS – We’re are brewing something special in Erdington at our new Community Café!

Location:   Rookery House, Rookery Park, Erdington

Create warm moments by serving delicious coffee, tea and tasty treats while sparking friendly conversations that brighten someone’s day.

Following the successful launch of our Hive in the Park Café at Rookery House, Erdington, on  1st May 2026, we are now looking for more volunteers to join our team.

Our current volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and bring valuable skills, experiences and enthusiasm to the café. Many had never worked in a café before, but with support they have built confidence through a mix of on-site shadowing with Hive in the Park Café team members and online training to reinforce their learning.

If you would like to join them, we are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers who would like to assist us in the day to day running of the community café on the following days:

Mondays – either or both of 08:00–12:30 and 12:00-16:30

Fridays – either or both of 08:00-12:30 and 12:00-16:30

Saturdays – either or both of 08:30-12:00 and 11:30-15:00

What do I need?

  • Basic kitchen, numeracy and IT skills
  • A friendly, approachable attitude. You will be part of a friendly, team and there will always be someone nearby to lend a helping hand.
  • Good communication and teamwork. Reliability and willingness to learn
    (An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants).

Volunteers must be 18 or over. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer work experience placements. Due to the training and onboarding involved, including criminal records checks, we ask volunteers to commit to at least one shift each week for 9–12 months. Shifts are 4.5 hours, or 3.5 hours on Saturdays.

We can consider summer placements for adult students who can commit to 15–20 days. These days may be spread across your availability or completed within a 3-to-4 week period.
