Choose your challenge and get moving for hospice care – they’re each uniquely inspired by the Bullring, Jewellery Quarter, Canals and Digbeth.

Upon your first £10 donation you’ll receive a Birmingham Hospice running vest or t-shirt, and once you have completed your chosen challenge and raised £150, you will win your unique Birmingham themed medal. Raise £250 and you’ll get a Birmingham Hospice hoodie!

Taking part is easy!

Follow the steps below to support your local hospice this May:

  1. Select one of four challenges each representing a different part of Birmingham: Jewellery Quarter Challenge (40 miles), Digbeth Challenge (60 miles), Canal Challenge (100 miles) or Bullring Challenge (160 miles).
  2. Register and join the Facebook group.
  3. Set up your fundraising page: Once registered, you can activate the fundraising page we’ve built for you or set up your own JustGiving page. We recommend setting your fundraising pledge at £150, but the goal is to raise what you can. Your local fundraising team are on hand to support you all the way to help you reach your target and win your medal!
  4. Begin your challenge and start your fundraising – once you have raised £10, we will send you a free running vest or t-shirt!

Choose your challenge

Each medal design is inspired by a different part of our beloved city. From graffiti vibes in Digbeth, to the sparkle of the Jewellery Quarter – these medals are pure Brummie magic!

Laura's Story

Laura Dawson has taken on Miles for Medals and raised an amazing £570 in memory of her friend, Kirsty.

Kirsty was cared for in our Selly Park Inpatient Unit and Laura wanted to give back for the compassionate care she received.

Laura said. “Kirsty was so well looked after; I was allowed to come and visit her whenever I liked. I used to wear silly outfits to make her smile, and it was special to her. She was so comfortable, and we are so grateful to the hospice.

“I hit my target miles by running and swimming. The medals are great quality too – I’ve really enjoyed taking on Miles for Medals for Birmingham Hospice.”

By raising an incredible £570, this amount could pay for 24 hours of nursing support for a person being cared for on one of our Inpatient Units.

We are here for you every mile of the way! As soon as you register you will receive:
  • Your very own fundraising pack relating to the challenge you choose, including mileage tracker, sponsorship form and fundraising tips.
  • Access to our dedicated Miles for Medals Facebook group, where you can speak to other supporters taking part and share top tips and pics.
  • A friendly Community Fundraising Team on hand to support you and answer any queries throughout the challenge.
  • A Birmingham Hospice running vest or t-shirt upon your first £10 raised.
  • Your unique Birmingham themed medal once you’ve hit your £150 fundraising target.

This is a virtual challenge for everyone, so you can do this throughout May at the best time for you. You can do this in your local area, park or gym. The different locations listed on the medals are just for fun to demonstrate the different distances. For example, if you have chosen the Jewellery Quarter challenge, you don’t have to complete this in the Jewellery Quarter (unless you want to of course!) You can complete your miles anywhere and any way you like, and use our handy tracker to record them.

Please take the challenge at your own pace and split the miles up in the way that suits you best – whether that’s walking 1 mile every day, 2 miles every other day or even jogging or cycling parts of your challenge.

You should receive your fundraising pack in the post within 10 days of signing up and you will receive it via email the day after registering.

Once you receive your first £10 donation you will receive your Birmingham Hospice t-shirt or running vest

When you raise £150, you will be sent your very own unique Birmingham themed medal for the challenge you chose.

If you get to £250 you will receive a free Birmingham Hospice hoodie!

You can keep track of your miles using any tracker app on your phone – we will send you out your own tracker sheet for the challenge you have chosen to log them. Make sure to share your progress with us on the Facebook group and on your fundraising page.

Don’t worry, if you don’t complete your miles but do reach your fundraising milestones, you will still receive your free goodies!

No, but we strongly suggest that you do! The Facebook group will be a fun way for all participants to share progress, tips and ideas for how to complete your chosen miles. The Fundraising Team will be monitoring the page daily so will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about the challenge. We will also be running competitions on the page throughout the challenge, so make sure to join for the chance to win some exciting prizes!
