Taryn is a Collection Box Coordinator covering south Birmingham and is part of a volunteer team that collect over £24,000 in much needed donations from charity boxes every year.
Taryn started volunteering for the hospice after her mum’s friend was cared for in our Inpatient Unit and her former mother-in-law was looked after by the charity’s Hospice at Home Team.
Explaining why she was keen to volunteer, Taryn said: ‘The hospice teams were absolutely brilliant, so it was just my little way of giving something back.”
“The role is so flexible and easy to fit around things in your life, I do around two to three hours a fortnight, and I really love meeting so many different people.”
While volunteers like Taryn make a big difference, Birmingham Hospice urgently needs more help and is looking for new Collection Box Co-ordinators in both north and south Birmingham, to collect donation boxes from workplaces, shops, and restaurants in the Northfield, Longbridge, Rubery and Erdington areas.
With rising costs and funding cuts, the hospice relies heavily on the generosity of volunteers giving their time to ensure the hospice can continue supporting thousands of local people living with a terminal diagnosis each year. If you could spare a few hours every fortnight, enjoy getting out and about, building relationships and want to make a real impact, this could be the perfect volunteering role for you.
