Knowle & Dorridge Lions Club has raised an impressive £11k for local charity, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice.
The Midlands-based club, which supports charities by hosting fundraising events, donated the generous amount after selecting the Hospice as one of its three charity partners last year.
The vital funds were raised by the Lion’s popular charity fundraising events – the ‘Lions Festive Walk’ and ‘Knowle Fun Run’ – and were presented to the Hospice at a recent reception at the Greswolde Hotel.
Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, which provides vital care and support to individuals and families living with terminal illness, was chosen as partner as it’s a local charity benefiting local people. The other two charities selected were Prostate Cancer UK and Motor Neurone Disease Association together with local causes.
Lucy Watkins, events manager at Birmingham St Mary’s, said: “This generous donation from Knowle & Dorridge Lions Club will make a big difference to the local families we care for and support. £11k is a fantastic amount and I would like to thank The Lions – and their brilliant supporters – for getting behind us and raising such an impressive sum.
“All of our services are free of charge and so we truly rely on the generosity of local people to help us continue to provide our vital care.”
Richard Buckley, past president at Knowle & Dorridge Lions Club, said: “Our Club chose Birmingham St Mary’s from a long list of applicants to be one of our nominated charities, due to the fantastic work they do for the local community.
“We were delighted in the way the Hospice got completely behind our fundraising for them – providing volunteers, walkers and runners – and with their help we’ve enjoyed another year of successful fundraising.”
At any one time in Birmingham and Sandwell, over 350 individuals are receiving care from Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice – whether that’s at the Hospice, in people’s homes or in the local community.
