FEARLESS Michael Jennings raised lots of laughs and vital funds for Birmingham Hospice by trying his hand at stand-up comedy.
Michael, from Kings Heath, performed in front of a 200-strong crowd at Rosies Club on Broad Street, which raised £650 for the hospice.
A fan of Ricky Gervais and Peter Kay, he had always dreamed of performing and took the plunge when he saw an advert for a workshop. After an eight-week training period Michael was able to deliver a funny five-minute routine to a live audience.
He said: “I think the work the hospice does is so phenomenal and inspiring that I just wanted to give something back.
“Stand-up comedy has always been something that I’ve fancied doing and I saw an advert on social media. Before I knew it, I was selling tickets and raising money, so there was no backing out.
“Looking back, it was so rewarding, and I am proud that I did it. Everyone enjoyed my routine and laughed at the right time.”
The hospice is close to his family’s heart after his wife’s grandad was supported by our dedicated teams in 2017.
Michael would encourage everyone to find their own unique way to aid our mission to care for people with terminal conditions.
“Whether it’s telling a few jokes or something else, you can try anything to help the hospice, which is an incredible organisation,” commented Michael.
“It pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I would really encourage everyone to get involved in any way they can.”
