Calling all football fans – sign up now for a World Cup-themed charity match and help raise vital funds for Birmingham St Mary’s.

Hospice supporter, Martyn Williams, will be hosting his annual football charity match in June but this year, it will have a World Cup twist.

To celebrate the summer’s most anticipated sporting competition, Martyn will be challenging football fans to don their most exotic football shirts and get on the ball for their local hospice.

Taking place at Beechcroft Multi Sport Community Club, the competition will see adult teams and junior teams battle it out to be crowned the world winner.

Alongside the football, there will be a raffle to enjoy, with prizes generously donated by local branches of Costa, Tesco and Wetherspoons. As a qualified tennis coach, Martyn has also donated free tennis lessons to the raffle.

This is the fourth year that Martyn has hosted a football charity match to show his support for Birmingham St Mary’s. The hospice cared for his dad Lenny at home – as well as supported the family with practical and emotional support – and so the sporting event is his way of giving back.

Martyn said: “Year on year, our football charity matches seem to get bigger and better. The atmosphere is unbelievable and it’s a lot of fun to see the community get together and do something amazing for the hospice.

“My dad was a huge football fanatic, so the matches are my way of celebrating his life. I know he would be so proud of the work we’re doing for Birmingham St Mary’s and would be honoured that we’re doing it in his memory.

“The hospice was a lifeline for my dad and our family and so I want to raise awareness of the support they gave during some of the toughest of times.”
