An ‘Enchanted Midsummer Walk’ has raised an impressive £28k for local charity, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice.

The annual, sell-out event saw over 400 walkers take to the streets of South Birmingham at dusk – making it the charity’s biggest and most successful walk to date.

Spellbinding magicians and dazzling fire breathers were amongst the mythical performers that captivated walkers along the 10k route, which took place last month around Edgbaston, Harborne and Selly Oak.

The Hospice – which provides vital care to local families living with terminal illness – also encouraged walkers to reflect and light a candle during the evening, to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones lost.

Lucy Watkins, events manager at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, said: “Our midsummer walk was a truly magical and inspiring event. Everyone that took part – from our mystical performers to all our fantastic walkers – looked the part and really got into the spirit of the evening.

“£28k is an incredible amount of money and will help make a difference to the individuals and families we care for at the hospice, in people’s homes and in the local community. All of our services are free of charge and so we rely on the generosity of local people to help us to continue to provide our crucial care and support.

“We would like to thank everyone for taking part and we hope to welcome them again next year.”

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice provides free care and support to over 1,200 individuals, their families and loved ones across Birmingham and Sandwell. To find out more about its upcoming events, visit here.
