Big-hearted Northfield residents can remember their loved ones in a special way this Christmas, by dedicating a star to Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice’s ‘Memory Tree’.
The Memory Tree – which has been kindly dedicated by Northfield BID – will give residents a unique opportunity to remember their loved ones who are sadly no longer with us, by allowing them to dedicate a star as a poignant tribute.
From Sunday 1 December, the special Christmas tree will be located on Tay’s Corner outside Birmingham St Mary’s charity shop – which is situated at 734 Bristol Road South – where shoppers and visitors will be able to pick up a star in return for a donation to the charity.
People can write their loved ones name on the star along with a personalised message, before hanging it on the tree to let their loved ones memories shine this festive season.
All donations will go to the Hospice, which cares for local people and their families who are living with life-limiting illness. It will cost £24,658 to run the Hospice’s services on Christmas Day – 64 per cent of which must be raised through generous fundraising – so every donation made is vital in enabling more individuals to spend their Christmas in comfort, pain-free and surrounded by the people they love.
Charlotte Dowling, community and corporate fundraising manager at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, said: “The Memory Tree is a wonderful way to honour your loved ones this Christmas, whilst helping to raise much-needed funds for the Hospice. We look forward to bringing the Northfield community together to remember, celebrate and share those special memories of the people we love and miss every day.

The Hospice’s Northfield charity shop is also taking part in the Northfield Churches Together advent calendar trail – an unusual advent calendar which will unfold in the windows of Northfield’s shops.
