Fitzgerald Civil Engineering Contractors have showed their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility by once again supporting a local charity’s Christmas campaign.
As well as being financial sponsor, the firm supported Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice’s Treecycling scheme by generously providing vans and volunteers to help enable the collection of over 1,700 trees.
This annual scheme allows residents to book their Christmas trees collection for a minimum donation of £10, which are then collected by volunteers to be recycled into compost, mulch or bio-mass fuel.
Fitzgerald Contractors have supported Treecycling since its inception in 2014 and on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th January, Fitzgerald provided vans and volunteers to help the Hospice collect trees from homes across Birmingham and Solihull.
The scheme which has grown significantly each year relies on the support of Fitzgerald Contractors. Not only is Treecycling an environmentally friendly scheme, it’s a useful service for the local community and continues to raise vital funds for the Hospice.
Charlotte Anson, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Birmingham St Mary’s said: “We are so grateful to Fitzgerald for their continued commitment to our Treecycling scheme. Once again the scheme has been a great success raising £23,000 for the Hospice and it wouldn’t have been possible without their support.

Nick Coley, Managing Director of Fitzgerald Contractors confirmed: “We have established a long term partnership with Birmingham St Marys Hospice as our chosen charity which enables us to work closely with them as a real ‘partner’.
The Treecycling scheme is an excellent example of this collaborative approach. We have had the scope to work closely with the team at St Marys to build the campaign year on year, extending our postcodes for collection and increasing total income.
The collection weekend is a real team effort, with our employees working alongside the Hospice staff it is great to know that every pound raised goes directly to Hospice services. To achieve over £23,000 in donations from the recent collections was a fantastic result, and a credit to all those who volunteered their time. We are already looking forward to next years’ campaign with the Hospice staff, where we will again look to increase the scope of the scheme and the donations made.”
