Black History Month 2020

1 October 2020

In October, Britain celebrates Black History Month. It’s a time to counteract the invisibility of black people’s contribution to society and a way to challenge the negative stereotypes black people face on a daily basis.

“The Black Lives Matter movement has shown how important it is to raise awareness of the issues that affect different races in society. We are proud to join the country in celebrating Black History Month this October and share on our social media channels important resources and how you can get involved.” – Hannah Warwick, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice

At the Hospice we believe that hospice care is for everyone. We want to reach people in every part of the community and we are committed to breaking down barriers so that race is not an obstacle to accessing the best end of life and palliative care.

This month, we will be valuing the work of black people through the years in society. Shining a light on local events and resources. We will also strive towards ensuring our work remains inclusive for years to come.
