Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice earns ‘good’ CQC report

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice has been rated as ‘Good’ in their most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission.

Inspectors from the health care watchdog gave the Hospice a consistently good rating across key areas of safety, leadership, responsiveness, effectiveness and care. This means the Hospice is performing well and meeting Care Quality Commission (CQC) expectations.

Following an unannounced inspection back in July, the CQC report highlighted amongst other things that “people received care and support that was tailored to their individual needs and improved their quality of life” and that “people were supported by staff that were kind and caring”.

In the 20-page report, published in October, one individual told inspectors: “They [staff] are brilliant a lovely team of people, they make me feel safe.”

Another individual said: “My pain [control] is very good, better than when I came in. The doctor comes to see me every day and I get round the clock care.”

Birmingham St Mary’s Chief Executive Tina Swani said “I am pleased the CQC have rated Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice as ‘good’ across all areas. Everyone at the Hospice is passionate and dedicated in delivering the best care and support possible to help individuals and their families, carers and loved ones. The report is encouraging for our vision of a future where the best experience of living is available to everyone leading up to and at the end of the life.”
