Pete Morgan, who fronts BBC WM’s 5am to 7am early show, has been announced as this year’s ‘Light up a Life’ host.
Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice’s annual Light up a Life ceremony gives local people the chance to remember a loved one this Christmas. As well as celebrating the lives of those no longer with us, the free event aims to raise vital funds to support families in Birmingham and Sandwell living with a terminal illness.
Radio presenter Pete Morgan, said: “Presenting the Light up a Life event is really what Christmas is all about for me. Thinking of others at a special time of year, whilst getting together with friends, family and loved ones. I am honoured to be involved in this year’s event.”
Pete will present the special event on Thursday 10th December at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice. With two ceremonies taking place respectively at 4.30pm and 7.30pm, families are invited to come along and enjoy Christmas carols and songs from local choirs before the lighting of the Christmas tree. Guests can then write the name of a loved one on a star, which is placed around the Christmas tree, as well as having the opportunity to view the hospice Book of Remembrance.
All donations from the event will help Birmingham St Mary’s provide crucial care at the hospice and at home for patients and families this Christmas. Over 1,000 terminally ill patients are cared for at the hospice which is free of charge to all patients and families. The hospice also provides help and support for relatives and friends, no matter how young or old, throughout the patient’s illness and after bereavement, for as long as necessary.
