Your gift for future generations

Have you been meaning to write your will but keep putting it off?

This October we have teamed up with a number of solicitors and will writers who will be waiving their usual fees and giving their time and expertise to help you make or update your will, in return for a donation.

Suggested donations are £100 for a single will, which typically cost £185, or £125 for a joint will, which costs £225 on average. All funds raised will go towards the Hospice Charity Partnership, which supports people to live well with life-limiting illness.

Taking part is quick and easy:

  1. Choose your local participating solicitor or will-writing consultant from the list below and call them directly
  2. Quote ‘The Hospice Charity Partnership’ as you book your appointment
  3. During your appointment, you will be asked to please make a donation to Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice

This year, you can choose to write your will online using Guardian Angel.  Simply input the coupon code ‘THCP-FREE’ when promoted to write your will for free. You’ll then be asked to make your donation upon completion.

Appointments are limited, so book today with one of our following solicitors or will writers:

You can take advantage of this limited offer whether you wish to write or amend a will and during your appointment you will be able to:

  • Make sure your family and friends are looked after
  • Choose who will be responsible for administering your estate
  • Protect your partner where you are not married or in a civil partnership
  • Ensure you don’t pay more Inheritance Tax than necessary
  • Leave a gift to a nominated charity, if you so wish

Of course we know that your family and friends will always be at the forefront of your mind when planning for the future. However, these days, after family and friends have been cared for, many people like to find a place in their will for a charitable cause.

At Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, 1 in 5 individuals and their families are cared for thanks to a gift being left in a will. If you leave something to charity in your will, then it won’t count towards the total taxable value of your estate. You can also cut the Inheritance Tax rate on the rest of your estate from 40% to 36%, if you leave at least 10% of your ‘net estate’ to a charity.

COVID-19 update: Our solicitors and Will-writing consultants will be conducting some of their appointments by telephone, email or video call. More information will be provided when you book your appointment.

Terms and conditions apply. Please note that if your estate is complex and a basic will is not sufficient, your solicitor or will writer will outline what is required and indicate any additional costs that may be incurred. Places are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.

If you have any questions about Make a Will Month or would like to know more about leaving a gift in your Will, please call our fundraising team on 0121 752 8778 or email fundraise@birminghamhospice.org.uk
