However, these days, after family and friends have been cared for, many people like to find a place in their will for a charitable cause. At Birmingham St Mary's Hospice, 1 in 7 individuals and their families are cared for thanks to a gift being left in a will. If you leave something to charity in your will, then it won't count towards the total taxable value of your estate. You can also cut the Inheritance Tax rate on the rest of your estate from 40% to 36%, if you leave at least 10% of your 'net estate' to a charity. This year, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice will be celebrating 40 years of care across Birmingham and Sandwell. When the Hospice first opened in 1979, it could care for 25 people on any given day. Four decades later and the Hospice is supporting over 400 people every day, providing care in people’s homes, in the community, at its Day Hospice facility and at the Hospice’s Inpatient Unit. Terms and conditions apply. Please note that if your estate is complex and a basic will will not suffice, your solicitor/will writer will outline what is required and indicate any additional costs that may be incurred. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
