IPU Volunteers – Selly Park and Erdington

We have an exciting opportunity to volunteer on our Inpatient Units (IPU) at Birmingham Hospice, across both our Selly Park and Erdington sites. This is a rare chance to make a meaningful difference within a specialist palliative care setting, supporting patients and families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

We are looking for individuals who are kind, empathetic, emotionally intelligent, and committed to providing compassionate support. Successful volunteers will be excellent listeners who are able to engage sensitively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

The commitment is a minimum of 9 -12 months, with one 3-hour shift each week (11am – 2pm) available between Monday and Sunday.

Responsibilities include:

  • Making tea and coffee for patients and visitors
  • Handing out meals or lunch trays
  • Sitting with patients to provide companionship
  • Talking with relatives and friends
  • Reading, listening, or providing social interaction
  • Helping patients complete satisfaction surveys
