“Happy to talk about flexible working”

At Birmingham Hospice, we’re more than a workplace — we’re a community dedicated to making every moment matter. Our teams are passionate about enhancing the quality of life for individuals living with life-limiting conditions, while offering unwavering support to their families and loved ones during deeply challenging times.

We are currently inviting Band 5 NMC Registered Adult Nurses to join our Inpatient Unit in Erdington, where you’ll be part of a skilled and compassionate multi-disciplinary team delivering exceptional, person-centred palliative and end-of-life care.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the ward when required, ensuring safe and effective care delivery.
  • Supervise Band 2 staff, student nurses, and clinical trainees.
  • Administer medications in line with hospice policy and professional standards.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to uphold the highest standards of care.

While your primary base will be Erdington, you may occasionally work across both hospice sites.

What We’re Looking For:

  • NMC Registered Adult Nurse (RGN) with ongoing professional development.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and commitment to high-quality care.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in palliative care is a plus — but not essential.

We welcome applications for both full-time and part-time roles.

What We Offer:

  • Opportunities to grow and develop specialist skills.
  • Support from our experienced Education Team and multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Generous holiday entitlement and wellbeing programmes.
  • Access to Wage Stream, Reward Gateway, and other staff benefits.

For further information or an informal chat, please email Katie Roberts, Lead Nurse – IPU at katie.roberts@birminghamhospice.org.uk.

We proudly recognise continuous NHS or hospice service for pension and annual leave purposes.

“After I saw the care my dad received at the hospice, I knew I wanted to work there.”

Barbara Bennett, a Healthcare Assistant at Birmingham Hospice’s Erdington site, was inspired to join the hospice after seeing the expert palliative care her dad, Frederick, received there.

Having worked in healthcare for 30 years, Barbara decided it was time she went into palliative and end of life care after helping to care for her father when he was diagnosed with heart failure, kidney failure and dementia.
