Are you a dynamic retail manager seeking a fresh challenge? Do you want to be part of an innovative charity retailer, who won the UK Charity Shop of the Year award for 2024-25?
Our charity shops are essential in raising funds for Birmingham Hospice, with the generosity of donors and shoppers playing a crucial role in supporting our community. We are looking for a Shop Manager to join our Retail Team at our Erdington shop.
Key Responsibilities:
As Shop Manager you will support the Retail Area Manager by developing, leading, and motivating your team of staff and volunteers. You will lead and train your team, ensuring efficient rotas are in place to maximise shop income. You will ensure that stock is displayed well and is sorted correctly, ensuring the shop and stockroom is always kept clean and tidy. You will actively encourage donations and saleable goods, and ensure stock is prepared for display/selling, ensuring all goods are appropriately sized and priced.
Requirements:
In return, we offer the opportunity to be part of an amazing growing charity retail team, generous holiday entitlement, wellbeing programmes, comprehensive training and the opportunity to develop your career in retail management.

SARAH Haywood gained a renewed sense of meaning when she started working for Birmingham Hospice after spending many years in commercial retail. She has been managing the shop on Heeley Road since April 2024 and enjoys the sense of purpose it provides.
She said: “I have always liked retail, but you are making money for the big shops, so for me there wasn’t anything behind it. When you are raising funds for the hospice there is a meaning, which drives me personally.”
One of her biggest challenges is ensuring the countless items donated, and the stockroom where they are stored, are kept organised and safe for staff and volunteers.
“I like working with stock, that’s what I enjoy the most,” commented Sarah.
“I like to see what items come in and try to find a fair price when they are put on display in the shop. It’s lovely to hear customers say, ‘that’s just what I was looking for’ or ‘I’ve been looking for one of these for ages.’”
The hospice is committed to developing a dynamic and diverse team, representative of the communities it serves. We ask you, therefore, to complete the Equal Opportunities monitoring form to help us in this aim.
We value each person as an individual – whether they are colleagues, patients, family members, carers or supporters, every person matters. We embrace diversity of culture, background and environment knowing it enriches our workplace and our relationships with our local communities. We are committed to building a culture of inclusion and belonging. We would love to hear from you, about what makes you uniquely you and how this opportunity will support you to succeed.
Our values are at the heart of everything we do as we continue in our mission to enable more people from all communities to access the care of their choice at the end of life.
