Working closely with the Head of People, you’ll lead the day-to-day delivery of our People services, providing expert advice, coaching and support across a wide range of people matters, including employee relations, performance and organisational change. You’ll combine operational leadership with strategic influence, helping to shape our people practices, develop our workforce and support the delivery of our People Strategy.

We’re looking for someone with strong employee relations expertise, a passion for helping people thrive, and the ability to build trusted relationships across the organisation. In return, you’ll play a key role in ensuring Birmingham Hospice remains a great place to work and volunteer, while contributing to a culture where colleagues and volunteers can deliver their very best.

What you’ll bring

  • CIPD level 5 qualification or equivalent supported by extensive practical experience
  • Significant experience working within a People function, with strong employee relations expertise
  • Knowledge across key People disciplines, including recruitment, learning and development, employee engagement, organisational development and policy development
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing high-performing People teams
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility and influence at all levels
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively at pace
  • A proactive, pragmatic and solutions-focused approach
  • Experience supporting organisational change, workforce planning and service improvement
  • Confidence using people data and insights to inform decision-making and drive improvement
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality, customer-focused People services

What we offer

  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a values-led organisation where people and volunteers are at the heart of everything we do
  • A varied and rewarding role that combines operational leadership with strategic influence across the people agenda.
  • The opportunity to shape and enhance the colleague and volunteer experience across Birmingham Hospice
  • A supportive, collaborative and inclusive culture that encourages innovation, development and wellbeing
  • Recognition of prior NHS or hospice service (including pension and annual leave entitlements)
  • Generous annual leave, wellbeing programmes and access to employee benefit platforms such as Stream and Engage

"It’s fantastic working with such a lovely, creative and supportive team"

“I’ve learned so much during my time in the Marketing Team. There’s such a range of things to get involved with, and you gain real perspective into the many sides of Income Generation. Whether it’s filming a video for one of our charity shops or designing adverts for a new event, everything I do expands my own experiences while helping our vital charity. Knowing that what I do helps such an important cause inspires me to get involved with even more, and I’m constantly growing in knowledge and confidence.

“It’s fantastic working with such a lovely, creative and supportive team! They’re always on hand to advise and encourage, and have real passion and expertise in what they do. In the Fundraising Marketing Team especially, we work with a wide range of people across Income Generation on various projects, which gives us so much valuable insight into the wider scale of the organisation. We’ve always got lots of unique and special campaigns going on, which are not only rewarding to be involved with, they’re also lots of fun!

“Birmingham Hospice is a brilliant place to work. Knowing how much this crucial service means to people makes me even more passionate about my job, and everyone here shares that passion. Representing the brand through our social media means that I see so much gratitude and support from the community every single day. It’s such a friendly and supportive environment, filled with kind, dedicated people. You definitely won’t regret joining the team!” – Matthew, Marketing Team
