At Birmingham Hospice, our people are at the heart of everything we do. From our employees to our volunteers, every person plays an important part in supporting our patients, their families and those important to them.

We are looking for a proactive, approachable and organised People Administrator to join our People Team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, has excellent administrative skills and takes pride in delivering a helpful, professional and responsive service.

About the Role

Working alongside colleagues across the wider People Team, you will provide essential administrative support across the employee and volunteer lifecycle, helping to ensure our people have a positive experience from their first contact with the Hospice, throughout their time with us and beyond.

We are looking for someone who will:

  • Support a wide range of People activities, including recruitment and onboarding, preparing offer letters, coordinating inductions, processing contractual changes, completing pre-employment checks and responding to queries.
  • Support volunteer recruitment, maintain accurate and up-to-date employee and volunteer records, help ensure our HR systems are effectively maintained and provide general administrative support to the wider team, including coordinating activities and events.
  • Be the first point of contact for our employees, volunteers, stakeholders and managers across the organisation – offering a friendly, supportive and professional service.
  • Help to ensure our processes within the People Team run smoothly and efficiently

Previous experience working in HR would be beneficial, but it isn’t essential. If you have strong organisational and administrative skills and are looking to start or develop your career in HR, we would still love to hear from you!

 What you will bring:

  • Proven experience providing effective administrative support whilst managing a varied workload, including coordinating tasks, maintaining accurate records and ensuring day-to-day administrative processes run efficiently.
  • A commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records, databases and information, ensuring tasks and administrative processes are completed thoroughly and on time.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using databases and systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • A proactive, confident approach, with the ability to prioritise tasks and work independently as well as part of a team.

Above all, you will share our values and understand the importance of creating a positive experience for everyone who works or volunteers at the Hospice.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to be part of a supportive People Team, contributing to the work of the Hospice and helping ensure our employees and volunteers have a positive experience throughout their journey with us.

"The team and colleagues are all very supportive and we really see the difference we can make."

SallySally, People Team Manager at Birmingham Hospice, has worked here for seven years.

“I love my job as it’s very varied – one day I can be meeting our new starters at our induction day, another day I can be supporting a wellbeing event and then on another day I can be testing our HR and Payroll system as part of an upgrade. There are lots of opportunities to get involved.

“The team and colleagues are all very supportive and we really see the difference we can make in the People Team to our colleagues, volunteers and the patients we support.”
