At Birmingham Hospice, we are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people living with life-limiting conditions. Our care extends beyond the patient, offering vital support to families and loved ones during some of life’s most challenging moments.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic and compassionate locum doctors to join our dynamic medical team, providing out of hours holistic care to inpatients across our two hospice sites in Erdington and Selly Park. You will support our multidisciplinary team by providing consistent and outstanding medical care on the Inpatient Unit (IPU), alongside our other medical staff and the rest of the multi-disciplinary team.

You will be expected to work flexibly between our Erdington and Selly Park depending on clinical need. The on-call will cover both bases and it is expected that you would be able to arrive at the hospice within an hour if required to assess a patient out of hours.

Why Join Us?

  • Make a Meaningful Impact: Deliver high-quality palliative care that truly makes a difference. Contribute across both hospice sites based on clinical need, with on-call responsibilities covering both locations.
  • Collaborative Environment: Work alongside a skilled multidisciplinary team committed to excellence.
  • Professional Development: Gain valuable experience in palliative medicine, supported by an honorary hospice contract and access to ongoing learning opportunities.

This is a fantastic opportunity for doctors looking to broaden their clinical experience in palliative care, work within a supportive and forward-thinking team, and contribute to a service that places compassion and dignity at the heart of everything we do.

If you’re passionate about patient-centred care and looking for a rewarding locum role, we’d love to hear from you.

💙 Together, we can make every moment count. 💙

“After I saw the care my dad received at the hospice, I knew I wanted to work there.”

Barbara Bennett, a Healthcare Assistant at Birmingham Hospice’s Erdington site, was inspired to join the hospice after seeing the expert palliative care her dad, Frederick, received there.

Having worked in healthcare for 30 years, Barbara decided it was time she went into palliative and end of life care after helping to care for her father when he was diagnosed with heart failure, kidney failure and dementia.
